Years of stormwater problems, fixed properly
Around four plumbers had jetted one section of this stormwater drain over the years. We looked at the whole system and found more than 10 breaks.
How this job played out
- 01
The challenge
For years, this property had ongoing stormwater problems that had never been properly resolved.
The homeowner had around four different plumbers attend over that time. On each occasion, the focus was on hydrojetting a single section of the stormwater drain. When they were unable to progress any further through the system, the investigation stopped there.
The immediate problem remained, no permanent repairs were carried out, and the homeowner was left with a stormwater system that still didn’t flow properly.
Having lived next door and seen the ongoing issues firsthand, Josh spoke with the homeowner not long after starting R&J Plumbing and Gas Solutions and offered to take a more thorough look at what was actually happening underground.

Finding the real problem
Instead of treating it as a single blocked drain, we investigated the stormwater system beyond the original problem area to determine why flow couldn’t be restored.
What we uncovered was much more extensive than a blockage. There were more than 10 separate breaks and failures throughout the underground stormwater system. With damage spread across multiple sections of pipework, hydrojetting the original problem area was never going to provide a permanent solution.

The solution
Approximately 60% of the existing stormwater pipework was excavated and replaced, allowing us to address the numerous failed sections and restore a clear path through the system.
Once the repairs were completed, the stormwater system was thoroughly tested to confirm water was flowing freely through the property and discharging correctly.

Three years later
After years of recurring problems and unsuccessful attempts to restore the system, the homeowner finally had properly functioning stormwater drainage. Three years later, the system is still flowing and performing exactly as it should.
This job remains a great example of the R&J approach: don’t just clear the problem you can see. Find out why it’s happening, fix the underlying issue and do the job properly.
